Building a relationship to last a lifetime
“To be my wife (or
husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for
richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till
death us do part, according to God's holy law, and this is my solemn vow.” - The famous and traditional marriage vow we
often hear during a wedding ceremony which promises a lifetime relationship
among married couples.
In this modern era, is a
lifelong union between a man and a woman still possible? Well, definitely my
answer is Yes! Love combined with a healthy relationship with God and with each other is the rule of the
thumb. Couples with good relationships can get along better and perk up life in
all aspects.
With their willingness
to adapt to changes and commitment to work things out together through thick
and thin as life goes on will keep the link strong and meaningful.
What makes a healthy
love relationship and how to build a relationship to last for a lifetime?
Stay involved with each
other; develop deeper connection through getting to know each other more day
after day, be considerate and understand each other’s weaknesses, be supportive
and appreciate accomplishments be it big or small. Trust each other.
Do not keep things to
yourself if you need to talk about something important. Do not lie. Always open
the lines of communication.
Arguments,
misunderstandings, disagreements and other conflicts are just normal especially
when it comes to family matters or parenting kids. Don’t let a day pass when
you fight, get through all your conflicts with your partner. Express yourself and resolve the conflict
within the day too. Never ever humiliate your partner in front of your kids or
other people. Show respect and talk
things out, never say it’s okay even when it’s not.
Stimulate your
relationship, unwind and always keep that flame alive. Do morning exercises
together or watch a good movie. A tight hug and a kiss or even holding hands
are non verbal cues that can bring a feeling of being loved, attention and
security which also strengthens association. Do not expect too much from your
partner for it will only put pressures on your relationship. Nobody’s perfect,
both or either of you may have flaws, but learning how to forgive and taking
pride aside can help build a lasting relationship.
A strong marital
relationship is primarily based on love, mutual trust and trustworthiness,
aside from the faith in each other, it is also important to have a fruitful
relationship with God. Mutual and shared faith in God can strongly bind couples
and families together in a commitment to common values.
