The Function and Versatility of Cellular Shades

Deciding on the right window treatments is sometimes a daunting task.  Not only is it important that they match the existing décor, shades and blinds have to be easy to operate, safe and functional while still remaining within the range of a budget.

Advancements in energy efficiency and modern technology have made it possible for manufacturers to develop new lines of shades and blinds that can significantly contribute to conserving energy in the home while offering modern, clean lines which can very easily fit into the décor of any room.  Cellular shades, which are also called cellular blinds, honeycomb blinds and honeycomb shades, are elegant and durable window treatments that are designed to insulate the home and safeguard it against noise and loss of energy.

Cellular Shades and Blinds

Cellular blinds are so named because of the empty air pockets that are parallel to the seams.  Generally speaking, cellular shades look like conventional pleated shades when they are looked at from inside the room.  However, in contrast to pleated shades, the cellular variety comprises a minimum of 2 sheets of fabric, with one facing the outdoors and the other one facing the room.  Both fabrics are available in an array of colors and opacity, offering flexibility over what is chosen to accent the room and what is used as an accent for the exterior décor.

There are layers of fabric that are joined at the seams in order that whenever the shade is lowered, it creates pockets of air to assist with the insulation of the room.  The "cells" safeguard the room against heat absorption during the months of summer and loss of heat during the winter months.  In addition, they provide barrier against inside and outside noise as well.

Variations

It should be noted that not every cellular shade is created equal.  They are available in an assortment of light filtering options and colors and these remarkable shades vary in insulating qualities, cell numbers and sizes as well.  Cell numbers and cell sizes can have an effect on the depth of the shade as well as its energy efficient properties.

Cells are not the only things that affect energy efficiency.  The thicknesses and weaves of the fabric also have a huge role to play in the insulating properties of the cellular blinds and the overall feel and look of the window treatments.  In addition, there is a vast array of available control options that range from remote-controlled and cordless to continuous cord loops.

Typically, cellular shades are tremendously durable and they provide the space with a sleek and modern accent.  There are resources available that can assist you in making an informed, educated decision regarding the most suitable window blinds for you.

Carry out a bit of research on cellular blinds in order to get a feel for the kinds of shades that are available in the market as well as the ones that would best work for your particular space.  Beautiful, solid and reliable blinds and shades can be somewhat of an investment; therefore you should have some amount of knowledge of these window coverings before making the final decision.

  2. I am quite happy with our newly installed cellular blinds but I do find them hard to dust. Otherwise, they do a fantastic job filtering the light.
